DARKEST HOUR

Country: United States
Genre: METALCORE / MELODIC DEATH METAL

DARKEST HOUR are already making a mark on the scene with their 9 albums. A band with concert experience from all continents, from small and big stages, a band that in the mid-90s stood - for example together with Lamb of God - at the revival of American metal.

They poured youthful passion and energy into forming the band, but even their gnarled metal/hardcore/punk ferocity has been tamed by time. Only for a while, of course, though even this position DH have mastered to perfection and even the, shall we say, mainstream sound proved how variable they are as a band. In 2017, however, the five-piece from Washington, DC, released the adored "Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora" (Southern Lord Records) by all the world's media (Revolver, Noisey, Metal Sucks, Metal Infection, Ghost Cult, Terrorizer, etc.).

They are talking about the peak of their career and everyone is including the record among the nominees for album of the year. Produced by the wordsmith Kurt Ballou (Converge), Darkest Hour have not only followed up their best period around "Deliver Us" with the album, but have also hilariously revitalised their sound, bringing the spirit of the 90s back to the fore in a modern but unpolished package. They can't be so strictly placed in the metalcore box, as both raw hardcore/punk and the pure melodicism of Scandinavian death metal come into play here. Exactly those attributes that kicked metalcore into gear at the time of its inception, that defined it and that made it one of the strongest speaking genres of the young generation after the turn of the millennium.
